I am renting and initially had a six month contract. When this ran out I asked for a new contract but never received one. I now want to move out, how much notice do I need to give?
I am in a privately rented flat and I paid £550 as a deposit when I first moved in. I had a six month contract and when this ran out I asked for a new contract but I never received one. I have now been living at the property for a year and want to move out. I just want to know how much notice I need to give and how soon I should get my deposit back?
The terms of the original tenancy still apply and this will set out the notice you are required to give which will be a month or two months.
As you tenancy pre-dates the Tenancy Deposit Scheme you will have to reach agreement with your landlord as to how much you are entitled to get back of your deposit. If no agreement can be reached you will need to sue him in the County Court.
